Think, dear reader, about the events that defined your generation. The Titanic? Bonnie and Clyde? Selma?

Let this writer nominate a moment for this generation. The moment that Elle Woods walked out of her boss/professor’s office and took control of her own destiny. The moment she decided to live by her own rules. And the moment when those rules placed her well on her way to world domination.

Looking about at the movements taking hold today. At the women voicing the belief that they should have authority over their own bodies and wombs. This writer can’t help but think that Ms Elle Woods had some sort of effect on these women. These women who follow their dreams. Who prove that you can be smart and beautiful. That being nice to people is the way to get ahead. Who prove that not letting anyone push you around is the way to get ahead in life.

And these were the women who sat in theaters with their sisters and mothers and friends and middle school enemies and cheered and cried and commiserated with the heroin on screen.

And these women are changing the world.

So, dear reader, never forget the work of Ms Woods and her sisters in arms and continue her legacy on into the future.
