Hello once more dear reader,
We have another new diet to discuss. This one requires no special pills or worms. Unlike past diets it is actually based in science!

Today we examine the Banting diet. The diet was developed by Dr William Harvey and popularized William Banting, a London undertaker, in 1863. Surprisingly, unlike the other diets this one is still in use.
Most likely because it does not have a habit of killing its practitioners.

The process will be familiar to any reader who haunts Pinterest or the magazine aisle at her local grocery store. Avoid “sugar, saccharine matter, starch, beer, milk, and butter.” Focus on “meats, greens, fruits, and dry wine.” By avoiding these foods Banting was able to lose weight and control his diabetes.
So, dear reader, this writer has little so say on the subject. No quips. No sarcastic remarks on the inadequacies of outdated science.
This writer can only admire the ingenuity of the Victorians to learn that perhaps eating white bread and pastries was not the best way to maintain a slim waist.
Until next time, dear reader, this writer is off to enjoy a mug of sugar free tea.
