With the recent resurgence in long-haired men on city streets this writer couldn’t help overhearing two older gentlemen bemoaning the downfall of manliness and the inevitable ruination of society that will certainly follow. Why then is long hair considered so womanly? Didn’t our forefathers sport long hair? How did the manliest-men (in the classically, brutish sense of the word) wear their hair?

This writer was then forced to ask herself, “Who are the manliest men in all of history? What group of men do modern, self described manly-men pattern themselves off of? Who had the strictest routines of self deprivation, sacrifice for the cause, and violent tendencies?...And how did they wear their hair?”
ὦ ξεῖν', ἀγγέλλειν
Λακεδαιμονίοις ὅτι τῇδε κείμεθα τοῖς κείνων ῥήμασι πειθόμενοι. Go tell the Spartans,
stranger passing by, that here, obedient to their laws, we lie
Spartans.
Self deprivation --- check
Insane work out routines --- check
Really awful diet --- check
Lots of man on man time --- check
Hairstyle --- “long, oiled, and gathered in a knot at the crown of the head”
So dear reader, this writer has concluded that the most manly, most oft courageous, nearly superhuman group of people had…man buns
