Today, dear reader, we will look back at a true revolutionary. She is said to be the “heart and soul” of the women’s movement. She’s influenced great women such as Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

She is the third head of the triumvirate of women’s suffrage.

She was the “first person by whom the heart of the American public was deeply stirred on the ‘woman question.’”

She is Lucy Stone. And today she is more relevant than ever.

Ms Stone has most recently been seen influencing her colleagues at Oberlin College over the question of equal pay for women. With such a powerful woman at the head of the fight, this writer thinks that it is only a matter of moments before women will certainly be garnering equal pay for equal work.

Ms Stone is also known for making inroads in the fashion industry. A woman before her time, she has been encouraging women to live healthier, happier lives before an Instagram maven. A strong supporter of the Bloomer Dress she thinks that (and I know this may shock some of you more sensitive readers) women should be able to move their bodies freely!

More privately Ms Stone is setting the example for future women who might enter into the marriage state. She has refused to give up her name to her husband. Choosing instead to keep her maiden name of Stone. Not one to do things by halves she consulted with a Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court to ensure that it was, in fact, legal for her to continue signing her name as “Lucy Stone – only”.

So, dear reader, the next time that you wander out into the streets in pants or forego your whale bone corset for the day, say a word of thanks to Ms Lucy Stone – only.
